The 6 stages of aligner treatment
Invisalign, the most famous company in Clear Aligners started less than 20 years back has become the most used word in the orthodontist world. The idea did take a while to be understood by the majority but the slow process was worth it. After all, Invisalign has some distinct advantages. Namely, the treatment is almost invisible. So,Here is a summary of the Invisalign procedure in case you're interested:
Stage 1 – The Consultation
Consultation
and discussions account for the first
step in any treatment. Whether it's a
case of finding braces for teens or orthodontic treatment for adults, the process of consultation
experience is the same. During the consultation, the job of the orthodontist is to evaluate
the smile of the patient
to determine whether the Invisalign treatment is right for you. While
many dentists are providers of the
Invisalign system, it might be possible that they don’t have the training that is needed
to ensure the best outcomes.
Stage
2 – The Treatment Plan
Once
the decision on aligners is made, the next step involves designing to proceed
with the Invisalign treatment. In this step, the impressions and images of your teeth and mouth will be made.
This data is required with the Invisalign makers
so they can proceed with the making of aligner trays as per the specifications provided by the orthodontist.
Stage 3 – Waiting for the Aligners
It
could take up to a month for the aligners to be created and delivered after the
plans have been approved. Aligners take a lot of time in being made according
to an individual but it is worth the wait.
Stage 4 – Wear your Aligners
Once
aligners are ready with your specifications, you need to visit the orthodontist for trials
and basic fittings.
All aligners are different and are meant
to be worn in a specific order. For two weeks, each aligner should be
worn. As the treatment process
progresses, each new aligner will serve to bring your teeth into straighter and straighter positions.
Stage 5 – Your orthodontist refines
your smile
The job of the orthodontist here is to refine and make your smile better.
When the last tray has been worn for two weeks but mostly a few teeth might still
need
some adjustments. It’s not a rare phenomenon for this to happen with Aligner
users. Again, the newly refined
aligners might take as long as a month
to arrive.
Stage 6 – Maintain your smile
You will need to wear retainers
after treatment is complete to give the bones of your
jaw time to solidify around your new teeth placements. Invisalign makes a product called Vivera which is similar
to their other trays, but they’re a little thicker
and more durable. You can also use a wired retainer. It is important to wear the retainers for the few months that
follow the treatment. Ideally, one should wear their retainers
a little each week for the rest of their life. After all, your teeth are always shifting
and moving.
These are the major six steps in the Aligner process. There are various aligner services nearby and one should get a consultation done at least once to make sure your teeth are in the right shape.
